Today's Quote

“Opportunities don’t happen. You create them.”

— Chris Grosser

Opportunities don’t just land in your lap—they’re crafted, chased, and wrestled into existence.

It starts with putting yourself in the right rooms, making bold moves, and adding value before you ever ask for anything in return.

Stop waiting for permission; no one’s handing out golden tickets.

Show up, do the work, and turn every closed door into an open one—because the future belongs to those who create their own chances.

Today's Lesson Learned

One Yes Can Change Everything: how to get your first green light

I’ve had the privilege of spending extensive time around successful entrepreneurs, athletes, and high achievers.

Despite their diverse paths, there’s a common thread that ties them all together: their lives took off after one crucial “yes.” When you’re starting a new career, building a startup, or trying to reinvent yourself, that first yes is the game-changer—it’s what validates your efforts and propels you forward.

But here’s the catch: it’s the hardest yes to get because you haven’t proven yourself yet.

If I were starting over today, without the connections and experience I’ve built, here’s exactly how I’d go about securing that first green light.

1: Find Your Mentor and Build Real Relationships

The fastest way to accelerate your growth is to connect with someone who’s already achieved what you aspire to do. But these relationships don’t happen overnight. You need to put yourself in the right places, be proactive, and provide value before you expect anything in return.

How to Build Trust:

  • Be a Good Listener: Pay attention to what others are saying. Trust is built when you genuinely listen, understand their challenges, and offer meaningful support.

  • Offer Value First: Successful people are often surrounded by takers. Stand out by asking what they’re working on, identifying their challenges, and determine ways you can help. Don’t talk about the ideas; just execute them.

  • Ask the Right Questions: Great connections are built on understanding. Here are three powerful questions that I use to spark meaningful conversations:

    1. What are you currently focused on?

    2. What’s your biggest challenge right now?

    3. What would help you move forward or solve those issues?

Successful individuals love helping others, but they need to know you’re serious and trustworthy before they invest their time and knowledge in you.

Show up, be consistent, and demonstrate that you’re worth the investment.

2: Do the Hard Work, For A Long Time

Earning trust and building relationships doesn’t happen in a day—it’s a long game.

This is where grit comes in. Commit to figuring things out, even when you don’t have all the answers. Admitting when you don’t know something, and then taking the initiative to learn, is one of the fastest ways to earn respect and credibility.

Keys to Building a Solid Reputation:

  • Consistency is Key: Show up consistently, follow through, and be reliable. Your word is your currency.

  • Take Ownership: Admitting you don’t know something and being willing to learn is far more valuable than pretending to have all the answers.

  • Refine Your Say/Do Ratio: The more you deliver on what you promise, the more people will trust you. Keep your commitments small, and achievable. Then always execute on them.

Instead of saying yes to everything, be selective. Focus on fewer commitments and over-deliver on each one.

3: Ask Boldly for What You Want (but only when you’ve earned it)

Once you’ve put in the work and built trust, it’s time to have those difficult but necessary conversations. Whether you’re negotiating your first deal, pitching your idea, or asking for support, you have to be clear about what you want—and ask for it boldly.

How to Secure Your First Yes:

  • Know Your Value: It’s tough to define your worth, especially at the beginning, but understanding that is key to making the ask.

  • Accept the Starting Sacrifices: Your first yes will come with compromises—lower pay, less ideal conditions—but the validation is priceless. It’s proof that your idea can work. And it will build momentum.

  • Be Direct and Confident: No one will hand you opportunities; you have to be willing to ask for what you want.

Your first yes isn’t just validation—it’s the starting point that turns your idea into a reality. It’s the job offer that starts your career, the first sale that turns your idea into a business, or the connection that opens the door to bigger possibilities.

If I had to start from scratch today, I’d be laser-focused on getting that first yes from someone who believes in me and is willing to take a chance.

That one moment can set off a chain reaction, attracting the right people, opportunities, and momentum into your life.

The first yes starts with you—putting yourself out there, doing the hard work, and asking for what you want.

That’s how you turn dreams into reality.

I used to think hydration was simple—just drink more water, right? But I was dead wrong. I’d power through intense workouts, meetings, and long days, only to feel drained and foggy. I’d get that 3 PM crash, struggle to recover after training, and constantly battle fatigue. I chalked it up to being busy, but the truth was, I was making mistakes with hydration. I ignored electrolytes, never considered what my body was actually missing, and kept refilling my water bottle without thinking twice.

It wasn’t until I was constantly “bonking” during Ironman training sessions that I realized proper hydration is a science, not a guessing game. My good friend just launched STRIVE, and it’s not just another hydration drink; it’s a formula designed to tackle the hydration gaps we all overlook. STRIVE is made from coconut water, which naturally contains electrolytes such as potassium and magnesium, and is sweetened with honey to provide natural sugars for sustained energy release, making it easier for the body to absorb water and electrolytes during hydration.

I started noticing the difference immediately: my energy was stable, my workouts felt stronger, and I recovered faster. Today Strive is offering Movement Memo subscribers an exclusive deal: Use code “Strive10” for 10% off your first order of STRIVE at checkout.
