Solo Creator to Media Network: Where the Content Game Is Headed

Inside a sauna conversation with a 12M subscriber YouTuber on why creators must think like television networks, obsess over hooks and retention, embrace live streaming, and build globally relatable content to survive

Hey Gang,

A friend who has built 12M+ subscribers on YouTube stopped by for a sauna, and I got his perspective on where the content game is going. The creators who will last will be "television networks". Their channel will be like your favorite TV channels. The best will have multiple channels, and consolidation will happen. Creators will join these larger networks, and share resources - production studios, editing tools/editors, ad networks, etc. He also said he can't afford to release a bad video. Countless hours of strategy go into the concept, the pre-production, the thumbnail, and the title. A good video is relatable to a global audience. This is why Mr. Beast is the best in the business. He picks concepts anyone can understand - no cultural or language barriers, and broad in appeal.

Many are getting into live streaming. This is another massive opportunity for growth as a creator. Getting comfortable with live streaming. As technology advances, creating and editing live content with AI will become easier. Practice talking to the camera like you're talking to your friends. Share your opinion on current events within your area of expertise.

The hook and retention deserve the most attention. What is the visual, text, or verbal hook that gets someone to watch your video? Why would they watch it all the way through? These are the metrics that matter for video performance.
