Today's Quote
“Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.”
This is what great coaches, leaders, and generals understand.
Your job is not to tell someone exactly how to perform their role.
Your job is to teach frameworks, develop skills, and set goals.
Your job is not to be involved in the day-to-day action.
Your job is to have a few meaningful conversations at just the right time.
Today's Lesson Learned
Why Hiring a Coach is the Shortcut to Excellence
If there’s one universal truth I’ve learned through sport, business, and life, it’s this: you can’t do it alone.
No matter how driven or talented you are, there’s a ceiling to what you can accomplish without guidance, accountability, and expertise.
The solution?
Hire a coach.
A coach isn’t just for beginners or people who feel stuck. A coach is for anyone—at any level—who wants to excel. It’s not a sign of weakness; it’s a commitment to progress.
I’ve seen it time and time again in my own life: every major leap forward I’ve taken has been catalyzed by surrounding myself with people who have already gotten to where I want to go.
The Power of Having a Coach
I didn’t get in shape until I hired a personal trainer. They didn’t just give me exercises to do—they held me accountable and built a structure I could rely on, turning fitness from a chore into a lifestyle.
I didn’t make it to the Ironman World Championships until I hired a triathlon coach. And not just any coach—a triathlete who was already crushing me in races. Their insights, discipline, and example elevated my performance beyond what I thought was possible.
I didn’t scale my first business until I hired a business coach. They taught me how to prioritize, delegate, and create systems so my business could thrive without needing me in the day-to-day grind.
I didn’t excel at CrossFit until I followed a dedicated program. Progress isn’t random; it’s the result of purposeful practice, designed by someone who knows the road ahead.
Right now, I have a running coach for Hyrox. They’re an elite athlete ranked among the top 15, and their expertise is pushing me to levels I couldn’t achieve on my own.
Why a Coach Works
Here’s the harsh truth: without accountability, most of us negotiate with ourselves.
“I’ll do it tomorrow.”
It’s raining, so I’ll skip today.”
“I’m tired, so I’ll just go through the motions.”
But with a coach:
You stop negotiating with yourself.
You have a partner to hold you accountable.
You stick to the plan, rain or shine.
It’s not just about the information a coach provides; it’s about the execution. You can find free advice anywhere online. But free advice doesn’t keep you on track when motivation fades. Success comes from action, and a coach ensures you take it consistently.
Surround Yourself with Excellence
If you want to fast-track your success, surround yourself with people who are already where you want to be.
Coaches don’t just teach you what to do—they help you skip years of trial and error.
They compress decades of knowledge and experience into actionable steps you can follow today.
The Formula for Success
Here’s what every goal requires:
A Goal: What do you want to achieve → Be specific.
A Plan: What steps will get you there → Coaches design this roadmap.
Purposeful Practice: Consistency beats intensity → Every day counts.
Daily Execution: Show up and do the work → No excuses.
Accountability: A coach makes sure you stay on track → Especially when it’s hard.
What’s Holding You Back?
There are 25 days left in 2024.
Are you where you thought you’d be? If not, it might be time to bring in a second set of eyes—someone to call you on your excuses, refine your plan, and keep you focused. The best in every field—athletes, founders, CEOs, writers, and creators—all have coaches.
Not because they’re incapable of doing it alone, but because they know they’ll reach their goals faster and with greater precision when they’re guided by an expert.
If you want to excel—whether in fitness, business, or any other area of life—hire a coach.
It’s the simplest way to elevate your performance, achieve clarity, and fast-track your success. Because here’s the truth: the hard work is still up to you, but with a coach by your side, you’ll know exactly where to focus your energy. That’s how you turn potential into results.
Action builds momentum — a coach makes sure that action is in the right direction.
Today's Optimization
For those of us who prioritize health and staying active, I’m excited to share CrowdHealth.
CrowdHealth is healthcare designed for the health-conscious. It’s not insurance; it’s a peer-to-peer model where members support each other’s medical costs, which means way less expense. And because it’s a community of people who value their health, we’re supporting each other and keeping costs low.
Here’s what I love about it:

• Cancel any time: No long-term commitments or penalties for opting out.
• No networks: See the doctors you trust without “out-of-network” restrictions.
